Joseph Carpenter Quiner
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Joseph Carpenter Quiner (1834−1862-04-28) was the eldest brother of Caroline Lake Quiner; who was to later become Caroline Ingalls, the mother of Laura Ingalls Wilder the notable author of the "Little House" books.
Joseph was born to Charlotte Wallis Quiner, wife of Henry Newton Quiner in 1834.
After the death of his father and remarriage of his mother to Frederick Holbrook in 1849 he helped his family farm their land in Wisconsin.
In 1856 at age twenty-two he was married to Nancy Frank. Six years later on April 28, 1862 he was killed at the Battle of Shiloh during the Civil War.
Though their marriage was childless Joseph's sister Martha (the oldest of the Quiner girls) named her newborn son Joseph Quiner Carpenter one year after her brother's death in 1863.
