Jude of James
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Jude of James (also Judas of James, not to be confused with Judas Iscariot) is mentioned as one of the Twelve Apostles of Jesus of Nazareth in the Gospel of Luke.[1]. He has been, at various times, conflated with Jude Thaddaeus. The construction "Jude of James" is commonly interpreted as "Jude the brother of James" although it could also denote a relationship of father and son (that is, "Jude, son of James").
That Jude is identified as a "brother of James" has led some to conclude that, with James the Just he may be a brother of Jesus.
The Epistle of Jude is attributed to Jude of James.[2] However, the Epistle of Jude refers to the apostles in the past tense and the third person, implying that either the epistle is psuedonymous or that Jude of James is not to be identified as an apostle.[3]
