From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Juicy Salif is a fruit squeezer or juicer designed by Philippe Starck in 1990. It is considered a collectable and icon of industrial design. Originally, it was designed to look like a spider, but to various points of view, it can look like other objects as well. It is manufactured by Italian kitchenware company Alessi. It is featured at the MOMA at New York, in a testament to its classic status. The Juicy Salif is an affordable sculpture. It diameter is 14cm, Height 29cm. It is made from Cast Aluminium and polished.
For the tenth anniversary of its launch, 10,000 were individually numbered and Gold Plated. There has also been a grey / black version. Both are now collectors items, the grey / black version particularly hard to find. The gold plated version was described as an ornament as the citric acid within a lemon should it be squeezed on it would discolour and erode the gold plating.
