Kairali TV

Kairali TV is a Malayalam television channel in India. It is the first public limited channel in the world to be started with money collected from the common man. It has more than 2 lakh shareholders. This channel is controlled by the political party CPI (M) (Communist Party of India - Marxist). Currently, Mammootty, a leading film actor in Malayalam, holds the post of Chairman and John Brittas is the Managing Director. Other important leaders are: Prabha Varma- Director, News and Current Affairs, Shibu Chakravarthy- Associate Director,Programmes, N. P, Chandrasekharan- Executive Editor, Somakumar- Executive Producer and Abraham Mathew- Chief Correspondent.
Other team members are: M.Rajeev- Senior Reporter, Mahesh Panju- Senior Producer, Anand Narayanan- Senior Editor, M.S.Banesh- Senior Reporter, Jayapal- Deputy Technical Manager.
The HQ and studio of the channel is at East Fort, Thiruvananthapuram(Trivandrum). It has a transmission centre at Ernakulam too. A state-of-the-art HQ is under construction in Trivandrum.
The channel owners claim that their vision is to create programmes that meet international standards of production excellence. Kairali TV has gained considerable viewership and popularity in a short span of time. People TV is another channel owned by Kairali, that caters news and current affairs round the clock. WE TV, a channel for the youth is to be launched on April 1st of 2007.
Often the news and associated programmes are biased towards its political patronhood.
