Kalpataru is a soceity registered under soceity of registration act 1860.It is located at Raj Kishorenagar Block of Angul District of Orissa.Its principal objective is to carry out research,advocacy and development activities related to Natural Resources. ABOUT KALPATARU AND IT'S MISSION Kalpataru is the legendary wish fulfilling trees, fulfills all the wishes desired by living beings on this Earth. The Banyan tree is depicted as Kalpataru. Stephen Hawkins one of the most intelligent individual recently rightly questioned about the survival of mother earth amidst socio-economic and environmental crisis. One of the major crisis that the world has already witnessing is climatic change resulted in environmental crisis like Hurricane, Super Cyclone, Drought, Global Warming etc.All these are deeply rooted somewhere in the damage that human being doing on the Nature; the most glaring is cutting down trees out of Greed and this is the major reason in creating an imbalance in the ecology, breaking the Geo-Hydrological Cycle. To save the Mother Earth we are urgently in need of Kalpatarus’ in thousands. Keeping the importance of Forests and Water in mind a group of committed youth came together in the year 2000 to sow a seed which sprouted as Kaptur in the year 2004.Kalpataru is Registered under the Society of Registration Act 1860, Regd.No.It is located at Raj Kishorenagar Block of Angul District, Orissa. The primary objective of Kalpataru is to give back the Earth as much is possible. That is preserving the natural resources especially that of water and forest through collective action. Specifically the objectives are divided into the following sub sections. 1. Research To conduct detail research on various issues related to Natural Resource management for providing sustainable livelihood that leads to poverty reduction. To find out the problems and solution in the management of natural resources.Kalpataru is planning to build a resource centre that will especially look at the role of Trees in Our society. It has a proposal to set up a special research cell for trees to be known as Tree Research Institute (TRI). 2. Advocacy The next step after research would be to disseminate the findings among the stake holders through advocacy programmes.This would include constant awareness building through training programmes at different level.This would includes five day and twenty one days training programme that include behavioural and technical aspects in the management of natural resources.Kalpataru is also proposed to have training hall that provides knowledge to the farmers on the issues of agro forestry and watershed management. 3. Development Kalpataru finally would undertake development activities like watershed development, forest development management, formation of cooperatives, Pani Panchayats, SHG and all other activities that would help the rural people to enhance their livelihoods through the sustainanable
