Kamla Nagar
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kamla Nagar is one of the major shopping centres in Delhi, India and is situated next to the North Campus, University of Delhi just opposite to HansRaj College. The market is famous for popular brands of fashion apparel and the spicy street food. The market is a popular hangout for college students, many of whom live in hostels and rented accommodation closeby.
Kamla Nagar was developed as an affluent residential area in the 1950s but its proximity to the University campus and an absence of popular market nearby turned it into a profitable commercial area. The market has several roundabouts (colloquially called " Gol Chakkars") typical of city planning of that era.
It now houses a number of yuppie stores on the famous Bungalow Road just opposite well known HansRaj College. The retail stores & restaurants are located on lower floors of the market while the upper stories have retained their residential character. It is majorly known for stores of traditional Indian dresses.
Most Kamla Nagar shops are closed on Mondays.
