Karak is a district of the North-West Frontier Province, Pakistan. It is situated to the south of Kohat District and on the north side of Bannu and Lakki Marwat districts on the main Indus High Way between Peshawar and Karachi.It is 123 Km from Peshawar. Up to 1940, this whole area was ruled by the Teri Nawab. Teri was the capital and the only Tahsil. It had tappas (satrapies): Teri, Seni, Khurram and Barak. After that, till 1982 it was a part of Kohat. Since July 1, 1982, it has been an independent district with Karak as its capital.
The district is predominantly populated by Khattak tribe, one of the famous tribes of Pashtuns.

The oldest high school, police station and veterinary hospital are in Town Teri. Teri is still the most populated town of the District. Seni Khattak are leaving in Tehsil Banda Daud Shah and Barak Khattak are leaving in Karak and Takh-e-Nasrati Tehsil. In the recent time large reserviors of natural gas and oil have been discovered in Banda Daud Shah Tehsil. As the Barak Khattak are in majority, therefor, all of the funds alloted for development works by the government have been spent in Karak Tehsil. Because mostly MNA and MPs are selected from Karak Tehsi.Karak has gor one of the largest Urinium mines in pakistan.
