Karen Zittleman

Karen Zittleman, Ph. D., a leading theorist and educator in the arena of American education, is currently an adjunct professor at American University's School of Education. The co-author of Teachers, Schools, and Society: A Brief Introduction to Education, Zittleman is perhaps best known for work in the subfield of educational equity. To this end, she has created several equity websites and is a contributing author to Gender in the Classroom: Foundations, Skills, Methods and Strategies Across the Curriculum. In addition, Zittleman focused her dissertation on teacher and student awareness of Title IX, and the extent to which schools themselves honor the legislation.
A graduate of both American University and the University of Wisconsin, Zittleman is the recipient of many awards including the American University College of Arts and Sciences Graduate Student Mellon Research Award, the American University College of Arts and Sciences Dissertation Scholarship, and the University of Wisconsin, Department of Kinesiology Dean’s Scholar Award.
