[edit] Between The Darkness And The Morning Light
Karma Pilot is the solo-project of multi-instrumentalist Daniel Vincent. The project began in early 2005 when his previous band, Onion Jack, went on "indefinite hiatus" following a disappointing reception to their previous album. The first recordings under the Karma Pilot name were released in April 2005. A four-track CD-EP entitled "Between The Darkness And The Morning Light" was released on the "mrs.vee recordings" label. The four songs were quite different in style: first track "Today I Have Become" featured a Neu-influenced electronic beat and vocoded vocals; second track "Never Seen This Before" leant more towards the mid 90's Trip Hop sound; third track "The Last Place On Earth" was a more conventional progressive rock affair and track four, "Summer 1999" was more in an ambient vein.
[edit] Midnight Paranoia
Another CD release followed in June 2005. The title track of "Midnight Paranoia" was more progressive then the previous EP, weighing in at around 18 minutes and featuring three distinct sections ("Carcinogen","The Me And You" and "Midnight Optimism"). The CD release of this track was completed with two "live" tracks, recorded in Daniel Vincent's home studio. "For The Benefit Of The Tape" was a re-recording of an Onion Jack song, and "The Me And You" was an early demo version of a song originally planned for the first Karma Pilot EP.
[edit] Take The Next Step
Recording continuted sporadically for the remainder of 2005 and the beginning of 2006. The only new Karma Pilot music to emerge during 2005 was "Take The Next Step", which appeared on a compilation of rare tracks entitled "Winter Collection 2005". The CD also included four Daniel Vincent solo songs, five Onion Jack out-takes and a remix of "The Last Place On Earth".
[edit] A New Career
In early 2006, Daniel Vincent announced via the mrs.vee recordings mailing list that a new Karma Pilot album had been completed. It would be called "A New Career" and a free promo CD would be available prior to release. The promo CD appeared as promised, containing tracks "Take The Next Step", "Never Seen This Before", "Ever Decreasing Circles" and "Summer 1999".
In April 2006 the album was released, through mrs.vee recordings, as with previous CDs. The eleven track CD featured subtly remixed versions of three of the four songs from the first EP ("The Last Place On Earth", "Never Seen This Before" and "Summer 1999"), "Take The Next Step", and six new compositions.
