Kate Royal (born London, 1978) is an English lyric soprano, critically-acclaimed as one of the most exciting British operatic talents in recent years. She studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and then the National Opera Studio, graduating in the summer of 2004. It was at this time that she first caught the attention of the classical music world when she won the Kathleen Ferrier Award, and went on to receive widespread critical approval for her Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, her recitals with the pianists Graham Johnson and Roger Vignoles, and in 2006 with Glyndebourne on Tour as The Governess in Benjamin Britten's The Turn of the Screw. Later the same year she signed a recording contract with EMI Classics; her first disc of songs by Robert Schumann is scheduled for release in 2007.
