Katherine Prudhomme-O'Brien (born on August 19, 1970 in Massachusetts, United States) is a conservative political activist, a New Hampshire home-schooling mother, and a Library Trustee for Derry, New Hampshire. She was the first female graduate of her trade high school's machinist program, and grew up to take a strong interest in politics. She briefly attended Bunker Hill Community College and took up a job making flutes before she vehemently entered the political arena.
[edit] Juanita Broaddrick protest
Among many of her political escapades, Prudhomme is mostly known in the political community for her protest outside Hillary Clinton's Senatorial Campaign Headquarters in New York City on August 19, 2000. Accompanied by family and supporters, Prudhomme recited a long speech protesting Bill Clinton's negligence regarding the matter of the rape of former Clinton volunteer Juanita Broaddrick in an Arkansas Hotel Room in 1978. As a rape survivor herself, Prudhomme denounced Bill Clinton's administration, and even brought up the subject in 1999 to the then Vice President, Al Gore. According to Prudhomme, Gore responded to the Broaddrick situation in an insulting and evasive manner. "Al Gore told me he did not see the interview and didn’t know how to evaluate all the charges. Gore went on to tell me how he thought the American people were tired of all these charges and wanted to move on," says Prudhomme. "That last statement really made me mad. What is he saying to me? That if I don’t 'want to move on' then I am not one of the American people? Or is he telling those who still think that rape is a crime in this country and believe their president may be a rapist that they are out of touch with everybody else? Are we out of touch? I say no!," she vehemently shouted in front of the Headquarters. Prudhomme was sent a request for payment by the IRS for $1,500 right after the protest. Since the rally, where she announced her receipt of the IRS notice, Prudhomme said she has been contacted several times by people offering her money to pay the $1,500 assessment. Prudhomme received much public response and appeared on many syndicated political talk shows such as The O'Reilly Factor and Hannity & Colmes. Prudhomme was awarded the Brave Heart Award from Judicial Watch, a government watchdog organization.[1]
[edit] Post-Broaddrick
Aside from the Broaddrick issue, Prudhomme supported John McCain's presidential run in 2000 as a Derry Town Chair.[2]When her political activism died down in the media, Prudhomme went on to continue raising her two daughters, and take part in Derry politics by becoming one of the Library Trustees and a member of the Republican State Committee. She was elected as a delegate from the Town of Derry to the New Hampshire GOP State Convention in 2006[3]. Prudhomme is a part of the Vesta Roy Series group, which encourages conservative women to enter politics. Most recently, Prudhomme organized a luncheon for 2008 Republican Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney.[[4]] She is a bold conservative, however she is critical of the current Bush administration.
