KatieJane Garside
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A vocalist and lyricist with an enthusiastic cult following, KatieJane Garside (born July 8, 1968) fronted the first incarnation of the band Daisy Chainsaw and sang guest vocals for the band Test Department. She retired from the music industry after a vicious stab from an article in The Sunday Times in early 1993, Katie fled Daisy Chainsaw mid-tour citing the pressures of fame, but really she had grown to despise being a mouthpiece for Crispin's lyrics and wanted to sing her own songs. After retiring from the music world temporarily, she now sings with Queen Adreena, an independent rock band from London. She has also worked in performance art and artistically altered dolls. She has exhibited at the Institute of Contemporary Arts in London. More recently she has released a solo work, Lalleshwari/Lullabies in a Glass Wilderness which contained films directed by James Sutton and also co-created the comic book entitled Indigo Vertigo with fellow Englishman Dan Schaffer.
Most recently, KatieJane is collaborating with Chris Whittingham in a project called Ruby Throat. This project is currently operating from MySpace and there are no details about the the release of an album. There are however 3 songs: Salto Angel, Ghost Boy and A Spy in the House of Thieves. The genre of music is notably different to that of her previous works, consisting of softer sounding ballads tending towards ethereal dreampop.
Her sister, Melanie Garside, also has a career in music.
Hole frontwoman Courtney Love once cited KatieJane as one of the first real Riot Grrrls, along with Kat Bjelland of Babes in Toyland and herself.
