Katsucon is a fan convention for anime, manga and Japanese culture enthusiasts. It is an annual three-day event held in or around Washington DC. Katsucon is traditionally held in February over Presidents' Day weekend.

Katsucon began in 1995 in response to the growing demand for more anime related programming at various sci-fi cons. It was run by members of The Virginia Tech Animation Society, the Virginia Tech Science Fiction and Fantasy Club and SciCon, with Balticon's security staff.^{[citation needed]} Based out of the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Virginia Beach, Virginia, Katsucon enjoyed steady growth for its first three years until breaking the 1000 attendee mark and outgrowing the HIEC in 1997. In 1998, Katsucon moved operations to Washington, DC area and, for one year, was held in the Radisson Mark Center.^{[citation needed]}

From 1999 until 2001, Katsucon was held in The Crystal City Hyatt in Crystal City, Virginia. In 2002, Katsucon left Virginia for the first time was held at the Mariott in Baltimore. In 2003 and 2004 Katsucon returned to Crystal City (Arlington), Virginia. For 2005, Katsucon moved up the street and was held at two adjoining hotels: The Crystal City Marriott and Sheraton. In 2006, the convention moved inside the Capital Beltway to the Omni Shoreham Hotel, located in Washington DC. It was held from February 17 to 19, 2006.^{[citation needed]}

Katsucon 13 (February 16-18, 2007) had an attendance of 6,200 paid attendees.^[1]

The convention features Japanese creators of anime and manga, cosplay, voice actors from anime and videogames, artists, vendors and exhibits, panels, workshops, and gaming. Katsucon's events focus on aspects of anime, manga, video games and Japanese culture. The 2006 convention featured a concert by mc chris.^{[citation needed]}
