Kau Kee Restaurant

Kau Kee Restaurant (Traditional Chinese: 九記牛腩) is a noodle shop with over 90 years of history located on 21, Gough Street, Midlevels, Hong Kong. It is renowned for creating the beef brisket noodle in clear soup (清湯牛腩). Unlike most of the other noodle shops in Hong Kong which usually serve both fish ball noodles and beef brisket noodles, Kau Kee exclusively serves beef brisket noodles (either in clear soup or curry soup). Despite its notoriously awful service, it is still frequented by many Hong Kong celebrities and movie stars, such as Donald Tsang, the current Chief Executive of Hong Kong, and Tony Leung.
Different Chinese medicine, herbs and spices are used to flavor the beef brisket clear soup in different seasons. A special section of the beef brisket (爽腩) is especially renowned for its unique texture, and it is often sold out even though it is significantly more expensive than the other sections of beef brisket.
Kau Kee is also renowned for its rude waiters and long queues during lunch hours. In addition, Kau Kee is one of the few noodle shops in Hong Kong that close on Sundays.
