Kavasseri

Kavasseri is a small village in Palakkad district of Kerala state, south India. It is under Alathur Taluk in Palakkad district of Kerala state, India.
Kavsseri situated in on the route of Alathur - Pazhayannur Road. The nearest Airport is Coimbatore and the nearest Railway Station is Palakkad Jn. River Gayatri a tributory river to BHARATHPUZHA passes through KAVASSERI.
There is one High School (K C P HIGH SCHOOL) and number of LP School are situated in KAVASSERI. The main activity of the people in KAVASSERI are cultivation.
Sree Parakkattu Bhagavati, who resides in Sree Parakkattu Temple, is the presiding diety of Kavasseri. The temple is sorrounded by thick forest. The main festival in the temple is POORAM. It falls on "POORAM" star in the month of Malayalam Calendar "MEENAM". The POORAM FESTIVAL is being celebrated in a grand way every year. Three Desams participates in the POORAM Festival, viz. VAVILLIAPURAM, KAZHANI, KAVASSERI.
Seven days prior to POORAM Festival, to mark the start of the festival the Kodiyettam (flag hoisting) would be performed at Koottala. Thereafter, everday till main festival POORAM, there is festival mood in the above three Desams. During these day, in the temple daily Niramala and Vilakku are being performed. On the POORAM Day, the festival starts with the Eaaduvedi first by VAVILLIAPURAM, followed by KAZHANI AND KAVASSERI.
Then caprisoned elephant's procession starts from Koottala. The procession passes through Ganapathi Temple, Eaduvedialu, and Kaalichira, Moolichira, Chembarathi and goes on and finally reaches at Temple.
There will be grand fire works in the evening.
In the night there are several programs at Pooramparaumbu and Temple. Night POORAM starts with arrival of KUTHIRA's from VAVILLIAPURAM AND KAZHANI. The first procession with KUTHIRA starts from VAVILLIAPURAM DESAM , followed by KAZHANI AND KAVASSERI and needless to add, there will be tremendous fireworks by the above three desams. The seventh day after POORAM FESTIVAL, to mark the end of the festival, KOORAVALI is being performed. (To bring down the flag hoisted seven days before the festival)
There are other festivals also such as EKADASI VILAKKU AT KONGALAKODE SREE KRISHNA TEMPLE AND VISHU VELA AT SRI AYYAPPAN TEMPLE.
