KCOY-TV is a television station in Santa Maria, California. It broadcasts on VHF channel 12, and is an affiliate of the CBS network. KCOY also operates local Fox affiliate, KKFX-CA. KCOY would not have existed if it were not for the Federal Communications Commission's decision in 1959 to move KFRE (now KFSN-TV) in Fresno from channel 12 to channel 30, which allowed channel 12 to be used in Santa Maria.
KCOY-TV was the hometown station in 2005 when it covered the trial of Michael Jackson since it was held at the Llewelyn Justice Center in Santa Maria.
KCOY-TV has one of the largest news teams on the Central Coast and is one of the most watched newscasts on the Central Coast. Since January of 1999, husband and wife anchors Drew & Nerissa Sugars have anchored KCOY News 12 at 5, 6 and 11 PM. They have been awarded best local personalities by the Santa Maria Times since 2000. Prior to KCOY, Drew and Nerissa served as weekend anchors for KGET-TV in Bakersfield.
On November 16, 2006, Clear Channel announced its intention to sell off all of its television stations, including KCOY, after the company was bought out by a private equity firm.

[edit] Trivia
> KCOY CBS12's morning news show Sunrise, which airs from 6:00 to 8:00 every weekday, is the fastest growing news show on the Central Coast. Also, the 7:00 to 8:00 hour has more local news than any other station.
> Drew and Nerissa Sugars are the longest running anchor team on the Central Coast. They first started anchoring the 5:00, 6:00, and 11:00 newscasts back in the late '90s. The Sugars are also the only married anchor team in the market.
> KCOY CBS12 was the very first local station to broadcast a high definition signal. It can be found locally on Comcast at channel 212, on Cox Cable at channel 712, and on Charter Cable at channel 782.
> The station's studios are located at 1211 West McCoy Lane. The address 12-11 is coincidental, considering the CBS is on channel 12 and the Fox station is on channel 11. The station actually moved to the location, long before acquiring the Fox affiliate. But the street was a factor. The "COY" in both McCoy and KCOY helped in choosing the address back in the late 80s.
