Kentakes
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kentakes are also known as Candaces and they form a series of Nubian warrior queens, queen regents, and queen mothers.
One of the earliest references to the Kentakes is that to the Candace of Meroe. When Alexander the Great came to her lands in 332 BC, she organized her troups and waited for him on a war elephant. Recognizing the brilliant formation in which the Nubian troups were lined up, he withdrew from Nubia and instead attacked Egypt.
