King of Texas

King of Texas is a 2002 made-for-TV film starring Patrick Stewart.
The film takes the plot of William Shakespeare's King Lear and places it in Texas during the days of the wild west. Stewart stars as John Lear, a wealthy landowner and analog to King Lear. In the story, Lear divides his property among his daughters only to be rejected by them once they have it.
Along with Stewart, the film also stars David Alan Grier, Marcia Gay Harden, Lauren Holly, and Roy Scheider.

- Patrick Stewart is perhaps most notable for his role as Captain Jean-Luc Picard on Star Trek: The Next Generation. In King of Texas he is joined by other TNG alumni including his wife Wendy Neuss and fellow actor Colm Meaney.
- The film was nominated for three Golden Satellite Awards.
