Kingsman
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A Kingsman was a former British rank in the armed forces, usually infantry. It could also be applied to any man serving in the British armed forces during the late 17th Century. It is the equivalent to a current private, and is no longer in use, except for particular Regiments of infantry belonging to the King's Division.
The family name, Kingsman, is believed to have derived from certain farmers in Norfolk, England, who in the Middle Ages held their land direct from the king, without any feudal lord in between.
In parts of Africa there are mounted men, known as Kingsmen, who hold their authority by inheritance. Postcards and metal models of these men are sold.
