Kinsol Trestle
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Kinsol Trestle, also known as the Koksilah River Trestle, is a wooden railway trestle located on Vancouver Island near Shawnigan Lake in Canada. It was built in 1921. At 145 ft high and 614 ft long, it is one of the highest and largest wooden trestles in the world. It was built to service mines via the Canadian Northern Pacific Railway, and now resides mainly as a local parkland and tourist destination. It is part of the Trans-Canada Trail, but is not usable by walkers or bicyclists.
Currently the Kinsol Trestle is in danger of being torn down by the local authority, Cowichan Valley Regional District (CVRD), because it presumably poses an environmental concern and danger to the public. Some community groups are trying to raise money to preseve the trestle.
