Knowledge Master Open
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Knowledge Master Open (commonly known as Knowledge Masters) is a computer-based semiannual worldwide academic competition, held in the spring and fall, in which teams of students from many schools earn points by answering multiple-choice questions quickly and accurately. The 200-question contest round (100 questions for 5th and 6th graders) includes fifteen subject areas: American history, world history, government, recent events, economics & law, geography, literature, English, math, physical science, biology, earth science, health & psychology, fine arts, and useless trivia.
There are 5-6th grade contests, 7-9th grade contests, and high school (10-12th grade) contests. The younger students participate in January and March. The middle school, junior high, and high school events are in December and April. From the KMO site:
A challenging, low-cost academic competition in which teams of students compete -- nationally and internationally -- without leaving their own schools. The KMO began in 1983 with 74 schools; it now annually attracts up to 4,000 schools and 60,000 participants from the U.S. and several foreign lands.
Its mascot is a Great Auk with an affinity for terrible puns.
