The School
Knox Gardens Primary School provides a challenging and success oriented educational program for all children. Development towards individual excellence is encouraged. Students are expected to work and play co-operatively with others, taking individual and collective pride in the school and their work. A spirit of mutual respect and support is embraced throughout the school.
Knox Gardens was established in 1986 serving a residential estate in the suburb of Wantirna South in the City of Knox. Ferntree Gully, Stud and High Street Roads bound the area.
The current enrolment is 381 students. A teaching staff of 25 is supported by six non-teaching staff working in a variety of capacities. A blend of contract and ongoing staff work with a variance of time fractions, enabling a wide range of educational programs to be offered to students.
Curriculum programs are delivered in years Prep to Six through a mix of classroom and specialist/resource teaching. Specialist teachers are selected to provide programs in - Physical and Sport Education, Performing Arts, Visual Arts, Indonesian and Reading Recovery. Various additional assistance, extension and challenge programs are provided throughout the school. Students with disabilities and impairments are integrated into an inclusive curriculum, offered from years Prep to Six.
Staff plan in teams at year and area levels, and in specific task groups to ensure cohesive implementation of learning activities and support programs. Parent and community participation complements and extends the programs provided by the staff.
Through extensive Professional Development opportunities staff are kept informed and are knowledgeable of current best practices in education, thereby promoting commitment to continuous improvement of student achievements. This enables teachers to be at the forefront of progressive educational programs that enhance the learning and teaching environment at Knox Gardens.
Participation in the Middle Years of Schooling Research and Development Project has provided momentum for the introduction of a thinking oriented curriculum throughout the school. Students at this school are routinely encouraged to participate in external activities to enhance academic, sporting, artistic and civic performance opportunities.
Knox Gardens Primary School has a strong commitment to encouraging all students to strive for excellence in a supportive, stimulating environment.
