KNWC is the name of two Christian radio stations in the Sioux Empire area of Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota, Life 96.5 FM and Life 1270 AM. KNWC broadcasts from their studios in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. KNWC is a ministry of the Northwestern College radio network.
Life 96.5 FM broadcasts contemporary Christian music, along with nightly Christian programming talk. AM 1270 focuses on Christian/family talk and biblical content. Their belief is to "lead people to Christ and nurture believers in their spiritual growth through Christ-centered media."[1]
KNWC FM is also rebroadcasted on several translators throughout the area (see table at right). Both KNWC AM and FM broadcast live via the internet, as well.
[edit] Souled Out Radio
On Life 96.5 FM, Souled Out Radio airs from 7-10pm Central time on Sunday evenings. It focuses more on teenagers. Souled Out Radio is commercial-free, with periodical religious messages and readings.
[edit] 2007 FM Transmitter Failure
On Wednesday, January 24, 2007, KNWC's main FM transmitter, which had been in service since 1983, failed.[2] The transmitter was a total loss, forcing a purchase of a new transmitter. On Thursday, February 8, 2007, Life 96.5 was back up to full power, operating on a standby transmitter; the new, permanent transmitter would be installed at a later date.
On Tuesday, March 6, 2007, the transmitter was again down. The new transmitter was installed on Thursday, March 8, 2007, but ice from a recent blizzard left on the antenna resulted in more damage, forcing KNWC to operate at low-power until the problem could be corrected.
