Kori Bernards
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kori Bernards is the MPAA's vice president of corporate communications and the lead spokesperson in the current battle with the BitTorrent technology invented by Bram Cohen. On the issue: "These claims (by Torrentspy) are false. Torrentspy is trying to obscure the facts to hide the fact that they are facilitating thievery. We are confident that our lawsuit against them will be successful because the law is on our side."[1] On accusations against MPAA for copying works: "We made a copy of Kirby's movie because it had implications for our employees...Dick spied on the members of the MPAA's Classification and Rating Administration, including going through their garbage and following them as they drove their children to school."[2] Co-interview with co-worker, Dean Garfield, Vice President and Director, Legal Affairs, Worldwide Anti-Piracy at the Motion Picture Association of America, a graduate of Princeton and New York University School of Law: "Stereotypes are often borne out of silence and a lack of understanding. This dialogue, as well as our work with Bram and others, is aimed at creating greater understanding through conversation and action."[3]
In March, 2006, the MPAA (Motion Picture Association of America) sued the www.torrentspy.com search engine portal for copyright infringement.[4]
In April, 2005, Kori Bernards joined the MPAA as the new vice president of corporate communications, based in Los Angeles. Most recently she was communications director for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC), and previously worked for the House Democratic leadership.[5]
