[edit] Homosexuality
Okay: the rumors about Kordell being gay are not encyclopedia-worthy. I live in Pittsburgh, and while I must say that there definitely are rumors, they're pretty damn flimsy. Thunderbunny 17:06, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)
I'm not so sure. Now then, I don't live in Pittsburgh, but even if the rumours are flimsy, they are quite well-reported. The rumours themselves have probably overshadowed his recent playing performances. Rhymeless 22:39, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)
- They are though, Rumors. Lyellin 22:41, Aug 21, 2004 (UTC)
- But, after a certain point, if the rumours grow large enough, even if they weren't true, wouldn't they be notable? After all, Jesse Palmer, is known more for his reality tv stint than his playing career. (Mind, I'm just playing devil's advocate here.) Rhymeless 23:06, 21 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- ...but Jesse Palmer actually did participate in a Reality TV program. Kordell Stewart is only alleged to have solicited sex from an undercover officer in Schenley Park (very well known to Pittsburghers for being a gay cruising hotspot); which was, of course, covered up immediately by the police, even though everybody somehow now knows about it. Comparing an appearance on a reality TV show to this is apples vs. oranges; one provably happened, the other may or may not have. The rumors about Kordell spread because he was (for parts of his career) a lousy quarterback who didn't give his all in a city used to having a playoff-caliber NFL team. They're no different than the allegations that Hillary Rodham Clinton is a lesbian; she was naturally unpopular with lots of blue-collar types (Republican blue-collar types, specifically), and when you get under the skin of that demographic, halfhearted allegations of homosexuality almost always follow. The whole thing says much more about the culture surrounding American spectator sports, as well as other elements, than it does about Kordell Stewart. Thunderbunny 21:33, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

- Okay, I can accept that. And all of this is in the talk page for whoever might want it, anyway. Rhymeless 21:46, 22 Aug 2004 (UTC)

The thing is, the gay rumors (whether true or not) have pretty much become a defining characteristic of Kordell's career. It would not be encyclopedia worthy to say "Stewart is probably gay" but it is worth mentioning "Stewart has had to deal with accusations of being homosexual througout his career." Including something like that isn't passing judgement on homosexuality or even on Stewart's lifestyle, it's simply pointing out something that is a part of his career. I was actually surprised it was not mentioned, and that's why I checked out the discussion page.
- Unsubstantiated and unverifiable rumors about someone, no matter how famous the person is and how well-circulated the rumors, are not encyclopedia-worthy. It's why you don't see anything about gerbils on Richard Gere's entry. Thunderbunny 21:10, 21 January 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Removed section "Homosexual rumors"
I removed this section, which was actually a paragraph copied wholesale from this page along with a leading sentence of original research. I also agree with Thunderbunny above, that unsubstantiated rumors (that, amazingly, seemed to correlate only with Kordell's dwindling success on the field) don't belong here. However if someone chooses to re-add them please do not directly copy text from other web pages. — GT 21:43, 10 August 2006 (UTC)
- The homosexual rumors are certainly going to keep coming back, but I'm maintaining that they're totally immaterial until Kordell pulls a Lance Bass or a George Michael. Doesn't every NFL city have one "Dude, that guy's gay, my friend knows this guy that knows this other guy that works for the police that said he got hauled in for solicitation one night" player? Eddie George went through the same thing in Nashville. Thunderbunny 00:54, 18 August 2006 (UTC)
