Koy Dennis Detmer (born July 5, 1973 in San Antonio, Texas) is an American football player who is currently a holder and backup quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles. He played college football at the University of Colorado at Boulder. Up until his release in August 2006, he had played his entire career in Philadelphia. His action as a starter was limited to the 1998 season, where he started 5 games, and in the 2002 season, where he started one, only to be injured and had to leave the game. However, Detmer spent most of his career as a backup to quarterback Donovan McNabb as well as David Akers' place-kick holder. After becoming a backup, his starts were limited to one game in 2002 (in which he himself was injured after throwing 2 TDs, and rushing for another) and the 2004 season finale against Cincinnati which the Eagles lost.

Detmer was released after the Eagles signed former Eagle A.J. Feeley as the backup and moved punter Dirk Johnson into the role of kick holder. He was re-signed on January 2, 2007 by the Eagles to provide a third QB for the team's playoff push. Koy was also re-signed to be the kick holder for the Eagles. This is something Detmer has been great at throughout his career and continued to prove this in the Wild Card win versus the New York Giants (the day after Tony Romo botched a snap to ruin the Dallas Cowboys' chances at advancing).

In 103 NFL games, Detmer has a career passer rating of 61.2 with 10 career touchdowns and 14 interceptions thrown. ^[1] At Colorado, Detmer threw for 5390 yards, second-most in school history.^[2]

Koy currenty lives in New Braunfels, Texas.
Koy's brother Ty Detmer has also played as an Eagle quarterback.
Koy played for Mission High School, whose team is the Mission Eagles.
Koy took on a part time job when he turned 16 (while in high school) as a deliveryman for Pizza Hut. He kept this job until the day he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles.
Koy is known to only pack his playbook and a toothbrush when leaving Philadelphia for road games. The one set of clothes he wears to every game is constant throughout the year.
Koy was re-signed by the Eagles January 2, 2007 primarily for the role of holder during field goal attempts, but, according to Comcast Sportsnet, was also expected to be Jeff Garcia's backup, ahead of A.J. Feeley. The reason for Koy being the backup is a formality. For Koy to be able to hold, since he's a quarterback, only 2 QB's can be active at a time. Thus, A.J. Feeley is entered as the 3rd string emergency quarterback. When the 3rd string emergency quarterback is played in a game, the starting quarterback is no longer allowed to come back into the game.
Koy is named after the famous Ernie Koy family of Texas athletes.
