Kristall Weissbier
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
German filtered wheat beer, popular in the South and South-East of Germany, also known in other parts of Germany as Kristallweizen. This beer has a strong, fresh, crisp, sparkling taste, and is often served with a slice of lemon on the rim of the glass, or in the glass.
The filtration has the effect of creating a lighter, cleaner taste and texture, while removing some of the complexity of flavor in unfiltered wheat beers caused by the presence of yeast. Filtration also changes the beer's optical qualities; it has a nearly cristal clear appearance (hence Kristall Weißbier.) Compare Hefeweizen.
