[edit] Further clues

1.There is no doubt that the emperor was a Telugu person. His mother Nagalamba was a Telugu lady.

2. The surname was Sammeta/Sambeta which is prevalent in Telugu Golla (Yadava) and Balija coummunities.

3. He scripted "Amuktamalyada" in a very difficult Telugu metre and replete with Accha (pure) Telugu words.

4. His most favourite commanders were Telugu people like Pemmasani Ramalinga Nayudu, ruler of Gandikota and who led the Vijayanagar army to victory in the battle of Raichur.

5. He appointed Telugu Nayaks in Madurai and Thanjavur as his trustworthy satraps/governors.

5. Telugu language and Telugu poets had more prominence in his court.

[edit] Mother tongue of the emperor

telugadela yenna desambu telugenu nenu telugu vallabunda, telugokanda yella nrupula goluva, erugave basadi desha basha landu telugu lessa.

this is the poem written by srikrishnadevarayalu himself . in this poem he is saying that he is the king of telugu people and he him self is a telugu. and states that telugu is the best language in india. this is enough to say he is a telugu, some brainless fellows are arguing that he is tuluva. stop all the non sense and listen to the emperor himself.

TULUVA HERE DOESNOT IMLIES TO LANGUAGE NAME,IT IS THE NAME OF THE VAMSHAM (LINEAGE) DONT MISUNDERSTAND,SRIKRISHNADEVARAYALU HIMSELF DID NOT MENTIONED THAT TULU WAS HIS MOTHER TONGUE.BUT HE MENTIONED THAT HE BELONGS TO GOLLA CAST ,SO WE CAN ASSUME THAT HE WAS A TELUGU SPEAKER ,IF NOT HE COULD HAVE MENTIONED IT IN HIS AMUKTAMALYADA.HE ENCOURAGED ALL THE PEOPLE WITH TALENT IN HIS EMPIRE BUT IT IS DEFINETELY SURE THAT IT WAS TELUGU PEOPLE WHO WERE THE FAVOURED IN HIS COURT.ALL THE VIJAYANAGAR EMPERORS WERE TELUGU PEOPLE.AND DEPENDED ON TELUGU GOVERNERS FOR THEIR SUCESS IN WARS.IT IS CLEARLY EVIDENT WHEN THE EMPIRE TOOK A SETBACK IN RAKASITANGADI THE KANNADA'S DID NOT SUPPORT THE EMPIRE AS IT IS NOT THEIR EMPIRE ONLY TELUGU GOVERNERS WERE WITH THE KING AND WHEN THEY DID NOT SUPPORT HIM, THE KINGDOM WENT EXTINCT.

Dear all plz see the below talk to us later. http://books.google.co.in/books?as_brr=1&id=w5MAAAAAMAAJ&vid=OCLC04623684&dq=Yadavas&jtp=43

this was written by CP brown was the author of Telugu-English dictionary in 1863.

it is left you to understand this page.

This matter is also controversial. There are many literary evidences to show that Krshnadevaraya's surname was 'Sammeta/Sampeta' which exists among Telugu speaking Balija/Naidu/Kapu castes of A.P., and Karnataka. It would be prudent to leave the matter as such instead of categorically claiming either Telugu or Kannada descent.

Without any doubt his mother tongue was Tulu --Vyzasatya 20:22, 19 October 2006 (UTC)

Krishnadevaraya was the son of Nagala Devi and Tuluva Narasa Nayaka an army commander. This indicates Tulu is the King's mother tongue. If Tulu is the mother tongue, we must be convinced that he is from costal Karnataka. Everybody consider's him to be from their community as the King respected everybody's religion and cultures. As my research says he is definitely a Hindhu. So all Hindhu's must be happy about it. However there are some references that he belongs to Kurubas or Kurumas who are Hindus concentrated mainly in the southeren states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. They are also known as Yadavas in Andhra Pradesh and Dhangars in Maharashtra. He leaned towards Vaishnavism. Can anyone let us know food habbits of the King through which we can determine more of his details. I just wanted to help each other to find the facts of our History. Let me tell you that I have gathered the info from various sources. Afterall this is History. - Abhilash M59.93.119.156 07:29, 31 October 2006 (UTC)

I am very proud of the fact that krishnadeva raya is one of the greatest Hindu kings. But just curious about his origins. It is said his mother tongue is Tulu. But we also have literary evidences to show that Krshnadevaraya's surname was 'Sammeta/Sampeta'which exists among Telugu speaking Balija/Naidu/Kapu castes of A.P., and Karnataka. Is it correct to assume that people from present day AP(Balija/Naidu/Kapu castes)settled in costal karnataka and deveraya was one of his descendents?? I am saying this because naidu, rayudu surnames are very common in AP. any feedbacks ??

[edit] court language

THERE IS NO DOUBT TO THE WORLD ABOUT THE MOTHER TONGUE OF ALL THE VIJAYANAGAR EMPERORS WAS TELUGU AND THEIR COURT LANGUAGE WAS TELUGU.ONLY HERE I FIND KANNADA PEOPLE CLAIMING KANNADA ORIGINS OF THE EMPIRE AND ALSO KANNADA LANGUAGE AS THE OFFICIAL COURT LANGUAGE ALONG WITH TELUGU.YOU PEOPLE WANT TO SPREAD WRONG INFORMATION TO THE WORLD WITH THIS ARTICLE,ACCUSING THE CORRECT PERSONS AS VANDALS.ALSO WHO EVER IS THE WRITER DONT EVEN HAVE LITTLE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE TOPIC.IT IS BECAUSE U R BEHAVING LIKE A CHAUVINIST,U R NOT IN A SITUATION TO AGREE THE FACTS.SRIKRISHNADEVARAYALU HIMSELF DIDNOT MENTION THAT HIS MOTHER TONGUE IS TULU.U PEOPLE WITH HALF KNOWLEDGE WHO CANT AGREE THE FACT THAT HE IS NOT A MEMBER OF UR STATE FOUND THIS TULU IN HIS LINEAGE NAME AND STARTED ARGUING THAT HE IS KANNADIGA.WHY WILL HE ENCOURAGE TELUGU AND ALSO WRITE IN TELUGU IF HE IS A TULU.HE HIMSELF MENTIONED HE IS BELONGS TO GOLLA CAST.SPEAKING ABOUT THE INSCRIPTIONS IN KANNADA, THERE R EVEN TAMIL INSCRIPTIONS IN TAMILNADU THIS DOESN'T IMPLY THAT THEY ARE TAMILS.KNOW ABOUT THE WRITINGS OF THE MUSLIM HISTORIANS AND ALSO KNOW ABOUT THE INSCRIPTIONS OF THAT TIME WHICH WILL THROW LIGHT ABOUT THE FACTS.THE WORLD HAS NO DOUBT ABOUT THEIR TELUGU ORIGINS AND TELUGU LANGUAGE.STOP THIS NONSENSE AND FACE THE FACTS.

No where is it mentioned that Telugu alone was the court language of Krishna deva raya. Almost half the vijayanagar inscriptions are in Kannada. The more I read on this matter, the more it seems to me that Kannada and Telugu were both court languages. Timmarasa, Krishnadeva Raya's right hand man himself was from the saluva race (coastal Karnataka). The Emperor himself is from the tuluva race (costal Karnataka again). Unless some one can give inscriptional evidence or literary evidence that Telugu was decreed to be the official language, It makes sense not to make assumptions). Court language is totally unconnected with literature (I know the emperor gave importance to Telugu literature). The very sentence "Telugu is the best among the national languages." indicates there were multiple national languages as one may expect in the 16th century AD. The Emperor must have had a personal preference to Telugu.

not only the above, even krishnadevaraya's rajguru was vyasaraya/vyasaraja thirtha...one of the foremost saints of dwaita philosophy and purandara dasa's guru (purandara dasa is incidentally, 'The father of Indian Classical Music)...now i dont want to see the goltis running around claiming vyasaraja thirtha, madhvacharya, purandaradasa, and everyone were golts...

it is very clear that telugu was purely krishnadeva raya's personal preference...it had nothing to do with running the administration....nor with the affiliations of the dynasty The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.174.232.187 (talk • contribs) .

Hello, first stop making personal attacks such as goltis etc. Please read WP:V and quote references for your edits. Till such time, I would keep your edits reverted. --Gurubrahma 14:09, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

I too agree with u Dinesh. Telugu and Kannada were both the court languages during that period. Who ever posted an anonymous message saying goltis !!! watch you r words brother. If you really wana fight there are tons of places, here please be civilized and behave yourself.

[edit] Krishnadevaraya Origin

Krishnadevaraya by his own admission proudly claimed to be descendant of Krishna.someone here Gurubrahma, claims he was not yadava.Would he please elaborate about his origin.Holywarrior 11:36, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

Someone has been trying to remove kannada related matter blatantly and retain Telugu related stuff w.r.t Krishnadevaraya. Please let us be civilised and behave like proud south Indians, instead of behaving like vandals. Let us try to maintain a neutral posture regarding The Raya's mother tounge, founding of the empire and related stuff and stop vandalising either the main page and other pages related to the empire. There are too many other things about the empire that needs to be displayed and portrayed. There was constant vandalism of the main page about 10 days back, totally disregarding the amount of work that has gone in to bring relevant info to the world. We dont want the world to see us as quarrelling, cribbing people.

[edit] Unsigned edits

Someone has made many unsigned edits to Krishnadevaraya. Please login, provide your references before making so many edits. For now I am reverting the edits and proposing that references be provided across the board for many "Nationalistic statements" in the page. Let us not just blow away someone else's opinions, especially if they can provide citations for the same. Putting a [citation needed] tag helps provide an opportunity for others to bring in their sources to. Also, please dont change the names of literary works taken from reliable sources, that too without a justification or co-reference. It is perfectly ok for Telugu's to call Krishnadevaraya as Krishnarayalu so long as its in the Telugu literature section. I would not be surprised if Telugu sources called him that. Otherwise elsewhere we should use real name "Krishnadevaraya".

Please let us maintain this page without controvery. Eventually we all loose if we dont. The only way to prove points and issues is with research and citations.

It has taken me a lot of work to provide all the info I have brought in. Please help me to further improve this page.

Pages I intend to work on in the future are, 1. History of Tuluva People and early cheiftens 2. Histroy od Saluva People and early cheiftens

This will put an end to any controversy regarding origin of Krishnadevaraya. The work Krishnadevarayana Dinachari in Kannada is a recent discovery and scholars are still trying to find out who the author is. I have contacted some scholars in India myself. Till we get a clear picture, let it remain as is. Later we can provide citations.

The Paragraph "Krishnadevaraya in the eyes of the Enemy" seemed like a POV to me. Please provide reference for it if you want it back on the page. I have not come across that info in all the 3 books I have and read thoroughly on Vijayanagar empire.

If people keep making unsigned edits without references, I shall bring in an admin and have him lockup the page. Please prevent this from happening.

At the end of the day, we should all realise that the great king is a heritage and pride of both Kannada and Telugu people, irrespective of his lineage, family etc. I am saying this though I am a Kannadiga myself.

[edit] Is Amuktamalyada is really amuktamalya?

I would be glad to know if someone explained with some credible citations --Vyzasatya 15:37, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Reply: Both my sources (Prof. K.A.N. Sastri in History of South India- From Pre historic times to Fall of Vijayanagar and Dr. S.U. Kamath in A Concise History of Karnataka) call it AmuktamalyadaDineshkannambadi 02:17, 24 October 2006 (UTC)

That's what I thought except an anon thinks it is amuktamalya --Vyzasatya 02:32, 24 October 2006 (UTC)
