Kyr
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
- The correct title of this article is kyr. The initial letter is shown capitalized due to technical restrictions.
kyr is occasionally used in geology and astronomy as a unit of one thousand years or millennium. The "k" is the SI prefix for kilo or thousand, with "yr" simply an abbreviation for "year".
Occasionally, the "k" is shown in upper case, as in "100 Kyr"; this is an incorrect usage. "kyr" itself is often considered incorrect, with some preferring to use "ky", as "y" is considered the proper abbreviation for year.
