L'Avion is a new airline based in Paris, France. It operates services between Paris - Orly Airport and Newark Liberty International Airport. [1] The first flight was on January 3, 2007 from Paris to Newark.
Similar to the concept in use by EOS, Maxjet, and Silverjet airlines, L'Avion offers premium-only service on TransAtlantic routes. They use a single ex-Condor Airlines Boeing 757-200 aircraft, registered as F-HAVN, with only 90 seats in a 2x2 configuration. The seating and service level is considered to be Business class (like MaxJet and Silverjet, unlike Eos which is First class). They offer laptop power at every seat, top quality French food and wine, and 140 degree recline on the seats.[citation needed]
Fares are generally lower than that of Air France and major airlines from the United States to Paris. It is the only airline to operate out of Orly Airport to the United States. (US carriers previously have operated to Orly but were forced to move to Charles de Gaulle International Airport by the French government.)[citation needed]
L'Avion began as Elysair, but changed their name in late autumn 2006 after market research with the new name tested well in the US market.
