La communidad latina in the united states

La Comunidad Latina in the United States: Personal and Political Strategies for Transforming Culture is a book published in 1998 by Professor David T. Abalos. This book discusses the position of Latinos as the fastest growing minority group and the difficulties they face in attempting to situate themelves in American society. According to Professor Abalos, Latinos have been told that assimilation is the only way to succeed, but this is far from the truth. "La Comunidad Latina" challenges this notion and concludes instead that transformation as a way of life "is the only viable option for the Latino community as a whole, regardless of racial, class, regional, or religious differences." The suggestions made by David Abalos are based on a theory of transformation developed by Malfred Halpern and taught by Professor Abalos which suggests that one must live life with the intentions of becoming someone fundamentally better, so as to be capable of understanding ourselves and our surroundings. In La Comunidad Latina in the United States, Professor Abalos familiarizes his readers with this theory and debunks its seemingly complicated nature by stating "Theory is not an abstraction: it is our participation in a sacred story at the heart of our existence, the core drama of life which is fulfilled by journeying through all three acts of the drama until we reach transformation".
