Lachine (borough)

Lachine is a borough (arrondissement) of the city of Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is now the former city of Lachine, Quebec.
The current borough mayor is Claude Dauphin.
The borough is divided into three districts:
- Fort-Rolland
- Canal
- J.-Émery-Provost
The current city councillors are Claude Dauphin and Jane Cowell-Poitras; the additional borough councillor is Bernard Blanchet.
"La Chine" actually means "China" in French. Cartier believed he had arrived in China when he reached the rapids, and named the area as such. Lachine is the oldest city in Canada having been founded in 1666
