Lafontaine, Ontario

Lafontaine is a small hamlet located in Simcoe County, in Tiny Township in the Canadian province of Ontario. It was originally called Saint-Croix. Many of its inhabitants are French-speaking, descended from settlers from Quebec.
The community is noted for its Festival du Loup, a festival of francophone music and culture which celebrates the death of a wolf that terrorised the village in the 1800s. In 2007, some of the events are being held in the nearby town of Penetanguishene, Ontario. The hamlet has one French language elementary school, école St-Croix, as well as the French speaking Roman Catholic St-Croix church. This farming community is located near the towns of Penetanguishene and Midland, on the south eastern part of Georgian Bay.
