Lake Tegel, in German Tegeler See, is the second largest lake in Berlin. It is situated in the northwest of the town in the Reinickendorf borough.
The lake encompasses 384.3 ha water surface. Most of the waterfront is privately held. The prehistoric name "Tegel" (first recorded in 1322 as "Tygel") is common for the larger territory being also used for the municipalities of Tegel (city), "Tegel Town" (Tegelort), "Old Tegel" (Alt-Tegel), "South Tegel" (Tegel-Süd') as well as the Berlin-Tegel International Airport.
