PLEASE NOTE: I no longer edit Wikipedia on a regular basis. I will likely not answer any messages in a timely fashion. The barbarians at the gate finally got to me. I found that I spent 5/8 of my time reverting vandalism, 1/4 of my time arguing with rules mavens, and 1/8 of my time doing editing I cared about. Ultimately, I decided to stop pursuing Wikipedia as a hobby and just use it as a reference work. I do occasionally edit, but generally only to fix glaring errors or to add hatnotes to articles when I don't find what I'm looking for on the first search. (Lamont A. Cranston: home~talk~contribs)

This is thanks for creating five Kentucky Governor articles today. These are the kind of subjects that newcomers usually don't touch, but you tackled them with aplomb, giving them very good starts. Thanks! I'm very much looking forward to your future work in the Wikipedia. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 01:18, 16 August 2006 (UTC) |

[edit] Rant about references tag
How, exactly, does it improve Wikipedia to add References Needed tags to articles or facts which are not in dispute? And why, exactly, do people feel the need to add many References Needed (or Citations Needed) to an article which makes no references or citations? Wouldn't it be a bit classier, not to mention make Wikipedia look better, to have only one tag at the beginning of an article? It's as though people think Wikipedia ought to become the primary research tool for scholarly articles. I guess everybody contributes in their own way, but adding References Needed tags to the biographies of minor figures from the Civil War who died a century ago seems of dubious value (particularly when it is immediately and patently obvious that the three paragraph article has no references). </rant> Lamont A Cranston 13:10, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree with this rant. It would seem there is a small number of users who are going on a tear placing these tags all over the place, and I wonder whether they are doing much to actually contribute content to the Wikipedia. I agree that these tags should mainly be used with potentially disputed content. Stevie is the man! Talk • Work 16:30, 2 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] When to add a "references needed" tag
Wikipedia has a policy on when to add a references needed tag. I quote:
- If an article needs references but you are unable to find them yourself, you can tag the article with the templates {{Unreferenced}}, {{Not verified}}, or {{Primarysources}}.
That is from Wikipedia:Cite sources (emphasis added). I will grant that I, and many others violate the "Cite Sources" policy when adding new material, because I find it more helpful and enjoyable to add content to Wikipedia than spend my time looking for authoritative sources for facts that are beyond dispute. But I am sick and tired of seeing people attack articles by polluting them with "References needed" tags rather than contributing something of their own. Lamont A Cranston 09:24, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Another policy I like:
- If the rules prevent you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia's quality, ignore them.
- That's from Wikipedia:Ignore all rules, and I like it. Lamont A Cranston 13:25, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] WP Bluegrass Region invite
You are invited to join WP Bluegrass Region, a WP project aimed at improving articles within the central Bluegrass region of Kentucky. I just set the project up not long ago and will be making improvements on it (it's still greek to me!). Seicer (talk) (contribs) 15:19, 13 September 2006 (UTC)

Hello, there please do not get into my talk page, that rude and inexcusable! Thanks. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by bobsmith319 (talk • contribs).
[edit] SNOOPING
Hi there, I find it extremly rude that you looked at my talk page. That was uncalled for and I expect an apology within a few days. bobsmith319.
- Your talk page is partly for public use. It's purpose is to allow communication with you; in this case, its purpose is to allow users to discuss whether your behavior comports with Wikipedia's guidelines and policy. Here's what Wikipedia:Vandalism has to say about it:
If you see vandalism (as defined below), revert it and leave a warning message on the vandal's talk page using the system below. Check the page history after reverting to make sure you have removed all the vandalism; there may be multiple vandal edits, sometimes from several different IPs. If it is obvious that all versions of the page are pure vandalism, nominate the page for deletion. Also, check the vandal's other contributions — you will often find more malicious edits.
Hi, sorry for my behavior, you may look at my contirutions, and you will see I don't vandalize, how dare you make false cooments out be me! Please review wikipedia's civility page. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by bobsmith319 (talk • contribs).
- I did not acuse you of vandalism. I pointed out that removing warnings from your talk page is not appropriate, and that the reason for this is that doing so makes it harder to fight vandalism. Since I reverted your talk page, I have become aware of the following policy discussion: Wikipedia:Centralized_discussion/Removing_warnings. I will not revert your talk page again, because I see that there is not consensus that this is the appropriate response. You will note however that removing warnings on your talk page is strongly frowned upon, and that user talk pages are in fact meant to be edited by the public. Cou get your WikiProject to come out and come to consensus on an image for the Bluegrass Barnstar? --evrik 14:14, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
- There has not been any interest in it, unfortunately. I think archiving it is the thing to do. Lamont A Cranston 15:18, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Greg Page Apartments (University of Kentucky)
I found the campus plan that provides a lot of insight on future projects and renderings. I would like to incorporate the renderings and map sketches into the pages, but wondered if splitting it off onto another article would be best. For now, I placed some at Buildings at the University of Kentucky#Future. I also created Greg Page Apartments (University of Kentucky), but this needs expansion with the future residential village (that will include the demolition of Shawneetown) - but should the two complexes be combined into one article?
