IMDb profile |
Land of Plenty is a 2004 drama film directed by Wim Wenders starring Michelle Williams and John Diehl.
The movie presents a view of post-9/11 America as seen through the eyes of Lana (Williams), an American girl who has just returned from a long trip to Palestine. Her uncle Paul (Diehl) is a paranoid Vietnam veteran who drives around filming and spying on Arab-looking people. Lana, in contrast, leans toward anti-war convictions.
Having first-hand knowledge of the Middle East and Africa, she cannot see the difference between the Los Angeles slum and the Third World. Over the course of the film their opinions do not change, but Lana and Paul never fail to respect each other.
The film was shot using digital equipment and hand-held camera, so the production time was cut to a minimum.
In the United States, the film was distributed by IFC Films.
[edit] Trivia
- Every member of the cast and crew received the same wage of US$100 a day.
- When Lana and Paul are talking on the roof, a sign can be seen in the distance reading "The New Million Dollar Hotel". This is the hotel which is featured in The Million Dollar Hotel, another film by Wim Wenders.
