Laplatasaurus araukanicus |
Laplatasaurus (meaning "La Plata lizard") is a genus of titanosaurid dinosaur. The type species, L. aurakanicus, was described by Friedrich von Huene in 1929. Other species in the genus, including "L. madagascariensis" and "L. wichmannianus" have been moved to other genera since their discovery. The 18 m (60 ft) long Laplatasaurus was similar to Saltasaurus and also had armored plating on its back, but the plates had much smaller ridges than those of Saltasaurus.
Laplatasaurus lived during the Late Cretaceous (Campanian to Maastrichtian stages) in South America.
