Lapseki

Lapseki (Greek: Λάμψακος Lampsakos) is the name of a town and a district of Çanakkale Province, Turkey.

The town was founded by Greek colonists from Phocaea in the 6th century BC. Soon afterwards it became a main competitor of Miletus, controlling the trade roots in the Dardanelles. The modern Turkish name derives from the original Greek name. Now 8000 people lives in Lapseki, but in the summer season it becames 20.000. In Turkey this province is famous with its very bbig and delicious cherries.
