Lara Cardella
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lara Cardella (born November 13, 1969 in Licata, Italy) is an Italian writer. Her first book Volevo i pantaloni, written when she was nineteen, caused a scandal in the small Sicilian community where she lived because it fiercely criticized the backwardness, chauvinism and parochialism of modern Sicily.
The controversy surrounding the book helped make it a bestseller in Italy and it has been published in translation across the rest of Europe. It was published in English as Good Girls Don't Wear Trousers.
A film of Volevo i pantaloni came out in 1990.
Novels published since then include Una ragazza normale, Intorno a Laura & Fedra se ne va but none of these has matched the success of her first novel.
