Lars Fletre

Lars Fletre (1904–1977) was a prominent Norwegian sculptor/artist born in Voss, Norway on June 22, 1904. He was married to Helen Svensson Fletre. He migrated to Chicago in 1923 and attended the technical night school at the Chicago Art Institute. He returned to Norway to marry a Swedish woman (the above aforementioned Helen Svensson Fletre) whom he met in Chicago. At one time, he worked at the Hadeland Glass factory in Jevnaker. He and his family returned to the United States in 1954 (where he resided in Chicago, Illinois until his passing while on vacation to Norway in 1977). Both Lars and Helen Fletre were prominent members of the Chicago Norwegian colony from 1954 when he and his wife settled there with their 3 children in the Logan Square neighborhood.
He is a graduate of the Chicago Art Institute. He specialized in wood carving, but was also a prolific painter.
