Laura Codruţa Kövesi

Laura Codruţa Kövesi (born in 1973 as Laura Codruţa Lascu) is the current Prosecutor-General of Romania, appointed in September 2006. She is the first female to be appointed to this post. At the age of 33 in 2006, she is also one of the youngest Prosecutors-General that Romania has had.
Born in Sfântu Gheorghe, Kövesi played professional basketball in her youth, at the club in Mediaş and in Sibiu, and was selected for the junior players national team which finished second in the European Championship in 1989.
Before her position as Prosecutor-General, Kövesi was the head of the DIICOT branch in Sibiu County, focussing on combating organised crime and terrorism.
