Lazarre Ponticelli (born December 7, 1897) is one of the last surviving French veterans of World War I and is currently the oldest living man born in Italy and the third-oldest man living in France. Ponticelli was born "Lazarro" in Piacenza, Italy. In 1907, when he was 9 years old, he moved to France, and more than six years later, in 1914, he joined the French Legion at age 16. Lazarre saw action against the Germans, and was wounded shortly after his entering of service in 1914. Ponticelli was discharged from the French Legion, and later joined the Italian Army in 1915.
