Leadmines
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Leadmines at Ballycorus in Ireland refers to the ruins of a Lead production facility and the immediate area around it.
The leadmines were first opened about 1805 by the Lead Mining Company of Ireland who erected a smelting works at the foot of the Ballycorus hill for the processing of the ores taken from the mines there.
The ruins are a chimney complex of a vertical granite tower section with external steps and a brickwork overground section, partially collapsed, which ran up the hill from Ballycorus lane to join the vertical section. The vertical section has external cantilever steps (some broken), each a single slab of granite.
