Leanan sídhe
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leanan sídhe are fairy maidens in Celtic folklore. Leanan sídhe are generally depicted as beautiful muses who offer inspiration to artists in exchange for fame and glory; however, this exchange frequently results in the artists premature madness or death. W. B. Yeats popularized a slightly different perspective on these spirits with emphasis on their vampiric tendencies. An Alternate name is Lianhan Sidhe or Leanhaun Shee.
From the Gaelic word "leannan," a sweetheart, concubine, or favourite. Also, Sídhe, pronouced "shee," a supernatural or fairy creature.
