Leigh Ingalls Saufley

Leigh Ingalls Saufley graduated from the University of Maine at Orono, Phi Beta Kappa, in 1976. She is a 1980 graduate of the University of Maine School of Law. She was with Maine's Attorney General's Office for approximately ten years, becoming one of Maine's first female deputy attorneys general.
Chief Justice Saufley was appointed to Maine District Court in 1990 and appointed to Maine Superior Court in 1993. She was appointed an Associate Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court in October of 1997. On December 6, 2001, she was sworn in as Maine's first female Chief Justice of the Supreme Judicial Court by Governor King.
