Leopold maneuvers
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Leopold maneuvers are used by medical professionals to determine the position of a fetus in a pregnant woman.
Leopold maneuvers are carried out in the four following steps:
- With the patient lying supine, the examiner faces toward the woman's head and places his or her hands over the fundus of the uterus, palpating deeply to identify the fetal part.
- The examiner continues inferiorly along the sides of the uterus, continuing palpation.
- With the right hand the examiner palpates just above the pubic symphysis, while pushing down with the left.
- Facing away from the woman's head, the examiner uses both hands to palpate the inferior portion of the uterus.
