Lifer
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lifer (originally called Strangers with Candy), was a five-piece nu metal music group originating from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, in the United States.
The band formed in 1999, and is most notable for winning MTV's "Ultimate Cover Band" contest, where they performed their own version of A-ha's hit song "Take On Me".
Signed to Universal Music, Lifer released their self-titled album on August 14, 2001. The album was widely panned by critics (ie: The All Music Guide gave it a rating of 1½ out of 5 [1]), and the band withered away into obscurity after the departure of guitarist Aaron Fink and bassist Mark James Klepaski in late 2001. They would later join the now popular alternative metal/post-grunge music group Breaking Benjamin.
After the demise of Lifer, vocalist Nick Coyle and drummer Chris Lightcap went on to form a band called "myDownfall" which later split up. Nick then formed a band called "The Drama Club", which he still currently is a member of.
Lifer- may also be used to describe a place of employment where one feels that they will never leave, usually denoting a negative work environment or an average job. The word lifer is related to the idea of a life long prison sentence. Hence, "Are you still working at Jiffy Lube." "Yeah, i'm a lifer."
