Talk:Lighter (barge)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I was always under the impression that a modern lighter was a type of coaster sized vessel that ferried goods between larger bulk carriers or tankers, offloading in places where the bigger ships cannot dock, either due to depth limitations or maneuverability problems. I'm also led to believe that coastal tankers are of the same breed, some even being ex-oil lighters. If I am correct should this be included in this article or a seperate article?--▫Bad▫harlick♠ 16:12, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
- If you can get something to back up your impression, then absolutely add this to the article - the vessels are all fulfilling the same function. But do be careful of wording: there may now be lighters of your description, but this does not mean the older type no longer exists in some countries (esp. non-industrialized). Also, explain coaster sized for us landlubbers? :-) Cheers, look forward to seeing more about the above, JackyR | Talk 19:40, 29 September 2006 (UTC)
