Linda Arkley was the Conservative mayor of North Tyneside, England, until her defeat in 2005 by Labour candidate John Harrison. [1]
She was elected as mayor in a 2003 by-election, following the resignation of Chris Morgan. She had previously been Deputy Leader of the Conservative group on North Tyneside Council. After he defeat, she has continued to campaign on behalf of the Conservative Party and currently represents Preston ward on the council.
In October 2006 Arkley and other Conservative councillors paid damages for libel over claims made in an election leaflet that a council employee had been hired for political reasons rather than on merit. [1]
