Lisa Olson is a sportswriter for the New York Daily News.
[edit] Sexual harassment by Patriots
During her tenure at the Boston Herald in 1990, she was sexually harassed by New England Patriots football players in the team's locker room. The players taunted her, simulated masturbation and held their genitals (extremely) close to her face. The incident was thoroughly documented by the National Football League in a 100-page investigative report. The players included Zeke Mowatt, Michael Timpson and Robert Perryman.
The incident sparked discussions about the roles of female print and media journalists in male-dominated team sports. While opinions vary widely on the appropriate levels of professional conduct of both male and female journalists and athletes in locker rooms, it is commonly acknowledged that this incident was an important milestone in the evolution of accepting female journalists as equally able to provide legitimate "sideline" and "locker room" coverage.
[edit] Career after incident
Olson was subjected to harassment, including death threats, from fans of the Patriots. The Herald's then owner, News Corporation, offered to transfer her to Sydney, Australia, where she worked for The Daily Telegraph and the Sydney Morning Herald. In 1998, she returned to the U.S. to take her current position with the Daily News.
